Glenda Cansler Hurley, age 86, of Dawson Springs, KY, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2013 at her daughter’s home where she was esiding. Mrs. Hurley was born on January 18, 1927, in Christian County, KY, to the late Herman Cansler and Ezma Poole Cansler. She was a 1944 graduate of Dawson Springs High School and retired from civil service at Fort Campbell in 1987. Mrs. Hurley was a member of the Dawson Springs Christian Church.
Mrs Hurley had 43 years of combined service with the Veterans Administration at Outwood Hospital in Dawson Springs and Fort Campbell Army Installation. While employed at Fort Campbell she was recognized as 'Civilian Employee of the Year 1987' for her instrumental role in the development and implementation of the civilian workforce for Blanchfield Army Medical Center. She was serving as the Chief, Manpower and Force Development when she retired.
Mrs. Hurley served in many veteran organizations during her lifetime. She was a Past President and life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 5359 in Dawson Springs. She was VFW District 3 Past President and Kentucky State President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a life member and officer in the American Legion Post 6 in Madisonville, KY. Mrs Hurley was a life member and Past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile of Neith Temple #80 in Madisonville, KY. She was a member of the Dawson Springs Chapter of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Hurley was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1998.
Mrs. Hurley is survived by a daughter and son-in-law ~ Dianne & Jose’ Labrado of Dawson Springs, KY; a son and daughter-in-law ~ Kent & Kay Hurley of Dawson Springs, KY; two grandsons ~ Carson and Aaron Labrado; and two step-granddaughters ~ Chasidy Chappell & Kristi Darnell.
Preceding Mrs. Hurley in death are her parents; her husband ~ Joel G. Hurley (departed 3/17/1997), two sisters ~ Polly Coates (departed 5/29/2005) and Catherine Dunning (departed 6/11/1992.)
Visitation for Mrs. Glenda Hurley will be on Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 10:00 A.M. until the 1:00 P.M. funeral hour at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs, KY. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. with Dr. Larry Davidson officiating. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery in Dawson Springs, KY.
Pallbearers will be Henry Asher, Terry Cansler, Scott Chappell, Jose’ Labrado, Carson Labrado and Aaron Labrado.
