Mr. William Isaac Newton Workman

August 23, 1916 — March 7, 2013

William Isaac Newton Workman age 96, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at his home in Charleston, KY. He was born in Hopkins County, KY on August 23, 1916 to the late James William Workman and Orlena McNary Calvert Workman. He was a 1934 graduate of Dawson Springs High School. Mr. Workman retired from the Coal Mines, the Chemical Coke Co., and York International. He was a member of the Charleston Baptist Church where he served as the Adult Men’s Teacher and as a Deacon for approximately 80 years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. Mr. Workman was an avid fisherman, family historian, gardener, and he greatly loved his family.



He is survived by his loving wife of 77 years~ Maxine K. Long Workman of Charleston, KY; a daughter~ Myrna Jean Jones of Charleston, KY, and a daughter & son-in-law~ Melinda K. and Clifford Young of Apex, KY; two sons and daughters-in-law~ Rev. Michael Kent and Alice Workman of Hopkinsville, KY, and Philip Newton and Belinda Workman of Norman, OK; eight grandchildren~ Debra Mitchel, Kent Jones, Mike Workman, Andrew Workman, Kathleen Young, Liane Shemwell, Heidi Tucker, and Holli Garentson; sixteen Great Grandchildren and nine Great Great Grandchildren.



Mr. Workman is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers~ Leonard, Lester, Lexie, Erbie, and Ford Workman and a stillborn brother. Additionally, he is preceded in death by a grandchild, Timothy Jones.



A funeral service will be held at the Charleston First Baptist Church in Charleston, KY on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Kent Workman presiding and he will be assisted by Rev. Calvin Bryant. Friends may call at his visitation on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 9 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. at the Beshear Funeral Home, Dawson Springs, KY and from 1 P.M. until the funeral hour at 2:00 P.M. at the Charleston First Baptist Church. Burial will be at the Dunn Cemetery in Charleston, KY.



Active Pallbearers will be Randal Hollis, Joe Dunbar, Kent Jones, Mike Workman, Andrew Workman, and Gene Workman. Honorary Pallbearers include Rick Shemwell, Wayne Workman, Jonathan Mitchell, and Frank Mitchell.
