Kenneth Harold Purdy of Madisonville, KY, passed away at 8:35 P.M. on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville, KY. Mr. Purdy was born October 27, 1927. He was a charter member of First Baptist Church in Dawson Springs, KY and he attended First Methodist Church in Dawson Springs. He was a member of the Al E. Orten Masonic Lodge and was also a Kentucky Colonel.
Mr. Purdy was a 1945 graduate of Dawson Springs High School and served his country in the European Theatre during World War II as a Corporal in the United States Army. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.
For a short period of time he worked for his father-in-law at Ferguson Mines but worked most of his career in sales in the coal mining industry.
Mr. Purdy is survived by his wife ~ Shirley Jones Purdy of Madisonville, KY; a son ~ David J. Purdy of Dawson Springs, KY; a daughter ~ Lisa Purdy Baker of Madisonville, KY; a step-daughter ~ Cindy Jones Pearson of Charlotte, NC; a step-son ~ Jeffrey H. Jones of Madisonville, KY; grandchildren ~ Tracy Purdy Collins, Justin M. Baker, Clint W. Baker, Matthew Pearson & Annie Pearson, and Casey Fain; great-grandchildren ~ Cole & Cyndey Collins, Tyler Guinn, Jackson & Isabelle Baker, Haley, Ethan, Mattie & Casey Jo Fain; nieces ~ Patti Frith, Pam Simpson, Ann Dement, Patty Morris, Peggy Fergerson, Penny Crick, Phyllis Eli & Pam Kolze; nephews ~ Dixon Bradley Purdy III, R. Dan Purdy and Gabe G. Purdy.
Preceding Mr. Purdy in death were his parents ~ Dixon Bradley Purdy, Sr. & Verda Coates Purdy, his first wife~Elizabeth Furgerson Purdy and brothers ~ Newman R. Purdy, Glenn D. Purdy & Dixon Bradley Purdy, Jr..
Visitation will be Thursday, October 6, 2011 from 11:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church in Dawson Springs, KY. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Randall Rogers & Rev. E.J. Hatton on Thursay, October 6, 2011at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery in Dawson Springs, KY.
Active pallbearers will be Gabe Purdy, Brad Purdy, Clint Baker, Justin Baker, Deon Collins & Dan Purdy. His great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
