James Niles Hicks age 90, of Kuttawa, KY and formerly of Dawson Springs, KY passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Rivers Bend Retirement Community in Kuttawa, KY. Mr. Hicks was born on March 4, 1924 in Dawson Springs, KY to the late Claude and Necie Cavanaugh Hicks. He was a dock supervisor for Cushman Motor Delivery . He was a member of Adriel Baptist Church and was a former commander of the Disabled American Veterans for many years. He served his county in the United States Army in the Pacific during World War II and was awarded two battle stars and a purple heart.
He is survived by a step-daughter ~ Shirley Arrington of Smith Station, AL; a step-son ~ Daniel Barton of Grant Park, IL; two nephews ~ David Hicks and Jimmy Hicks; five step-grandchildren ~ Niles Wayne Arringon, Junior Floyd Arrington, Robbie Lee Arrington, Tyler James Barton and Casey Danielle Barton; eleven step-great grandchildren and several step-great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife ~ Gladys Blanche Hicks (departed 7/2/2013.)
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Rosedale Cemetery with Military Rites to be performed by the U.S. Army and the Hopkins County Honor Guard. The public is invited.
