Harry Dale Campbell, Dawson Springs, KY, passed away at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at his place of residence. Mr. Campbell was born September 3, 1921 in Mexico, KY. He owned and operated Campbells Hardware in Dawson Springs for 33 years and prior to that he was a part owner and operator of Cluck and Campbell Grocery in Dawson Springs where he began to work at age 16. He was a member and graduate of the 1939 “Wild Onion Class” of Dawson Springs High School where he played on the high school football team.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was stationed for a significant portion of the war in the Admiralty Islands where he worked as an aviation electrician on the Navy’s airplanes. He was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Dean McGregor Campbell of Dawson Springs, KY; two daughters- Donna Lynn (Dennis) Savell of Charlotte, N.C., and Rita Ann (Henry) Asher of Princeton, KY, a sister, Alberta Campbell Leopard of Buford, GA.; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Campbell in death were his parents--Benjamin Campbell and Redda Marie Waddell Campbell Hunter; two brothers- Albert “Arlie” Campbell and J.R. Campbell and an infant sister.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 5-8:00 P.M. and Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1 p.m. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs, KY. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. E. J. Hatton on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Beshear Funeral Home with burial at Menser Cemetery at Menser, KY. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by VFW Post 5595.
Pallbearers will be Henry Asher, Dennis Savell, Trent Asher, Ryan Savell, Brady Savell and Brandon Lynn.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to be made to the First United Methodist Church of Dawson Springs, 107 E. Keigan St., Dawson Springs, KY 42408.
