Edward Eugene Storms, age 81, passed away at 9:25 A.M. on Monday, December 19, 2011 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville, KY. Mr. Storms was born May 5, 1930 in Christian County to Barney Edward and Ophelia Bennett Storms. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dawson Springs, KY.
Mr. Storms served his country in the United States Army, 101st Airborne for nearly 25 years during the Japanese Occupation, and the Korean and Vietnamese Wars. Upon retirement with the Army he was a Sargeant First Class. Beginning in the early 1970s and continuing through recent years, Mr. Storms and his wife, Billie Storms, owned and operated “Storms Antiques” in Dawson Springs, KY.
Mr. Storms was a member of the Al E. Orten Masonic Lodge for which he served as a former Grand Master; and additionally, he was a member of the Scottish Rites, the Shriners, and the Knights Templar.
Mr. Storms was a published poet and a member of the Caldwell County Poetry Society, and he was a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by two daughters ~ Judy Ann Tomlinson of West Nashville, TN, and Marcy (Tony) Smiley of Dawson Springs, KY, and two sons~ Edward Eugene Storms, II (DeNell), and Michael Schyuler Storms (Toni) all of Dawson Springs, KY. He is survived by two sisters, Joyce Washburn and Patricia Riley both of Dawson Springs, KY, and three brothers~ Robert Storms of West Bloomfield, MI, James McGowan of North Carolina, and Stan Stallins of Dawson Springs, KY. Additionally, he is survived by eight grandchildren~ Shawn Riley, Shane Riley, Shannon Parker, Serena Son, James Ryan Smiley, Jonathon Storms, Lindsey Rogers and Schyular Storms, and six great grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Storms in death were his parents, his wife of many years~ Billy Jean Storms (departed 2/12/2007), four sisters~ Laura Stevenson, Ernestine Wimpy, Jane Harrington, and Peggy McGowan.
Friends may call beginning Wednesday, December 21, 2011 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs, KY. At 7 P.M. on Wednesday evening a Masonic Service will be conducted at Beshear Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Thursday, December 22, 2011 from 9 A.M. until the funeral hour at 1 P.M. at Beshear Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Randall Rogers, Rev. William “Bud” Baird, and his grandson, Jonathon Storms. Military rites will be conducted by the 101st Airborne at Piney Grove Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
Active pallbearers will be John Rogers, Shane Riley, Steven Parker, Ryan Smiley, Jonathon Storms, and Schyuler Storms. Shawn Riley will serve as an honorary pall bearer.
