Donald Andrew Hamby, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at his residence in Dawson Springs, KY He was born in Hopkins County, KY on January 3, 1931 to the late William Benson and Della Sheets Hamby. He was a 1949 graduate of Nortonville High School and he served his country during the Korean War in the U. S. Army, Second Infantry, as a Sergeant in the Signal Corp Division where he was integrally involved in the Army radio operation. Upon entering civilian life, Mr. Hamby established, owned and operated Hamby’s TV Sales and Service in Dawson Springs, KY for 50 years.
Mr. Hamby was an avid fisherman, and he loved working in the yard and spending quality time with his family. He was a life member of the Lee Wilson Stevens VFW Post, and the American Legion Post 310. He also served his community by being a volunteer for the Dawson Springs Fire Department, and he was a former member of the Dawson Springs Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years~ Dottie Reynolds Hamby of Dawson Springs, KY; two daughters ~ Doncella (Larry) Leach of Hereford, AZ, and Barbara (Hugh) Villegas of Evansville, IN; one son~ Michael (Marty) Hamby of St. Charles, KY, three grandchildren~ James Leach, Mark Hamby, and Terri Summers, and one great grandchild~ Brady Summers; a sister ~ Sadie Lantrip of St. Charles, KY; two brothers~ Ralph Hamby of White Plains, KY, and Johnny Hamby of Dawson Springs, KY; additionally, he is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother~ Earl Hamby, and a sister~ Evelyn Morris.
Visitation for Mr. Donald Andrew Hamby will be Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 10:00 – 2:00 P.M. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs, KY. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Beshear Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Mayfield officiating. Military rites will be conducted prior to burial at the Greenwood Cemetery by the U.S. Army, the Madisonville American Legion Post 6, the Madisonville VFW Post 5480, and the Earlington American Legion Post 2.
Pallbearers will be James Leach, Mark Hamby, Johnny Hamby, Ralph Hamby, Travis Hamby, and Charlie Hamby. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Clark and Beshear Coffee Group.
