Benjamin Campbell, age 89, of Dawson Springs, KY, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Baptist Health, Madisonville, KY. Mr. Campbell was born on May 11, 1926 in Dawson Springs, KY to the late Benjamin Campbell and Rosa Bell Hancock Campbell. He owned and operated Campbell’s Standard Oil Service Station in Dawson Springs for many years. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and he was a lifetime member and a Past Commander of the VFW Post 5359. Mr. Campbell was a benevolent supporter of Veterans and citizens in the Dawson Springs area and is remembered as the organizer of the Emergency Squad in Dawson Springs. He was a graduate of Dawson Springs High School and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Mr. Campbell is survived by a daughter and son-in-law ~ Marcia Gaye Campbell Harris and Lloyd Harris of Marion, IL.
Preceding Mr. Campbell in death are his parents, his wife, Marian Workman Campbell (departed 11-21-1993), a sister ~ Joan Oakes, and three brothers ~ Edward Campbell, Wayne Campbell and Toney Campbell.
Visitation for Mr. Benjamin Campbell will be on Sunday, November 1, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Beshear Funeral Home, and on Monday, November 2, 2015 from 8:00 AM until the funeral hour at 11:00 AM. with Rev. Randall Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery with Military Rites being presented by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and the Hopkins County Honor Guard.
Pallbearers include: Norris Orange, Kent Workman, Ross Workman, Ronnie Haile, Mark McGregor and Lee Merrill.
