Ida Myrtle Johnston

Ida Myrtle Johnston, 91, 50 Martin Loop, Dawson Springs, made her transition from this life to her eternal one at 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, after a brief hospitalization at Baptist Health Madisonville. She was born on April 18, 1925, in Ilsley, KY, to Leonard Jackson Sisk and Claudia Mae Adcox, and lived most of her life in Ilsley. She was a homemaker for 32 years before going to work at Davis Bestway in 1973 where she worked in the meat department for 16 years before retiring. She was a 31-year breast cancer survivor and a 73-year member of Landmark Apostolic Holiness Church in Dawson Springs where she had served as Sunday school teacher and adult class secretary as well as being an RSVP volunteer at the nursing home for many years. She enjoyed singing, whistling, and listening to gospel music, working jigsaw and word search puzzles, and visits from her family and friends.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 72 years, Omer Owen Johnston, Sr.; two brothers, Maurice Lee Sisk and Johnnie Willis Sisk; and one sister, Mildred Opal Cotton.



She is survived by four sons, Curtis Wayne (Betty) Johnston, Almo, KY; Doyle Randall Johnston and Omer Owen (Frieda) Johnston, Jr., Dawson Springs; and Kenneth Ray (Dana) Johnston, Waycross, GA; and one daughter, Carol Ann (Kenneth) Moore, Dawson Springs. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren: David Johnston, Rosehill, KS; April (Jeff) Summers, Almo, KY; Angela (Mark) Dayoc, Jacksonville, NC; Melissa (Mike) Morris, Dawson Springs, KY; Brian (Lisa) Johnston, Dawson Springs, KY; Ryan (Larissa) Moore, Florissant, MO; Kenny (Tayler) Johnston, Macon, GA; Rebekah (Kevin) Cantrell, Hartsville, TN; Kristin (Chris) Taylor, Kingsland, GA; and Holly Aldridge, Waycross, GA; 17 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Josephine Haile, Dawson Springs.



Visitation will be on Saturday, March 11, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Landmark Apostolic Holiness Church, 590 Industrial Park Rd, Dawson Springs, with service at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Rusty Akers will be officiating. Burial will be in Ilsley Cemetery.



Pallbearers will be David Johnston, Brian Johnston, Ryan Moore, Jeff Summers, Mark Dayoc, and Mike Morris.



Honorary pallbearers are Kay Laffoon, Carolyn Martin, Gayle Cranor, Betty Adcock, Betty Poole, and Joyce Childers.
